Series 6: A Good Year for Teal'c

"I think that this year has actually been the best year for Teal'c. We started with a great two-parter that heavily involved him (Redemption 1 & 2), and this allowed us to tie-up some of the story with his wife and son."

The Changeling

"I was actually working on another story at the time and was really having problems with it. It was a great story, but I couldn't resolve part of the plot and was going to discuss it with Brad Wright. I was at a dead end with that story and then on the way to the office the complete story to The Changeling just came to me. In fact, Brad said, 'Forget the other story and write this one now'.

"Brad did a polish and took it to a level that as a writer I'm not capable of doing. I was very pleased with the final results. The two weeks of filming The Changeling were some of the best of my life. My girlfriend was in it, two of my kids were in it, and I brought in a whole load of guest stars, who also happen to be old friends of mine. Every department had thoughts and input into what they could do for the show, and it was absolutely amazing. The stuff that Martin Wood brought to it visually was just beyond my wildest dreams.

"I think it was only possible in the sixth year because of the cost! It was a big show. John Smith is a great friend of mine, and once the script had been distributed he came down on set. Now, he usually gives me a hug, but this time he said, 'So, is there anyone from Stargate that isn't in this episode?' and he walked away without talking to me. But, God bless him, pretty much everybody that I wrote into that script ends up on the screen."

Season Seven Will be Even Better?

"It [S6] would have been a great year to end with because it finished on such a high note. But then, when you've had such a great year, you'd start thinking that maybe you could surpass it. I think that everyone was rejuvenated this time; it showed all of us that we've still got a lot left in us. "We got the best ratings we've ever had, our audience keeps expanding, and no one is prepared to sit back and just watch. We're all challenging ourselves to be better than last time, and that's why Season Seven should be even more fantastic."

The End of Stargate?

"I would still like to have a definitive final season because then I can tie up a load of things. We didn't know if it was going to be the end or whether we were going into a feature - we didn't know a lot of things. So, if nothing else, this seventh final year will give us a year of stories leading us into the feature and the spin-off. I think it will be a much cleaner resolution to SG-1. After the hard work everyone has put in, I think it deserves a clear-cut resolution and natural evolution into what happens next."

Mr Writer

"I'm really getting into writing now. This season I'm going to pitch three, four or maybe five episodes, so we'll see how many they bite on. I want to move away from the acting and into the writing or producing side of it. I've also got two features I'm working on.

"I hate dieting or working out! Truthfully, I don't know how many years I can do acting, unless I can be a 600lb character actor. It's not that writers don't get to spend long hard hours, but the notion of being able to be home when your kids get up for breakfast really appeals to me. I'm not saying that I won't do another TV project, but hopefully, this will be a change in direction."

Shave My Head?

"I can tell you now, this will be the last TV show ever where I shave my head. I have to shave every morning, and by the end of the season I have painful razor burn on my head. Every year I put in the suggestion that Teal'c grows hair, but I know what the outcome is going to be. Brad says, 'OK Chris, let's hear it...' ...and then he says, 'No!'."
